Modaux et expressions de possibilité : le cours
Les modaux (can, could, may, might, must, should, would) expriment la possibilité, l'obligation, la permission ou l'hypothèse. Ils modifient le sens du verbe principal.
Exemple
'Immigrants can contribute to society' (possibilité), 'They must respect local laws' (obligation), 'Cultural exchange might reduce conflicts' (hypothèse).
À retenir
Les modaux ne changent jamais de forme et sont toujours suivis d'un verbe à l'infinitif sans 'to' (sauf 'ought to').
